Ireland: Cannabis rally brings O'Connell St to standstill

Irish Independent

Saturday 15 Jun 2013

TRAFFIC on Dublin's O'Connell Bridge was brought to a virtual standstill for a brief time this afternoon.

upporters of the campaign to legalise cannabis stopped to catch their breath on route to a rally outside Government Buildings.

A Garda spokesman said that the organisers of the rally had contacted Gardai in advance to inform them of their plans to march, and said that an appropriate traffic management plan had been put in place.

“It’s a peaceful protest that's held every year and we are happy to facilitate it. There was of a hold up on O'Connell Bridge as they were walking across it that caused a knock-on effect for traffic,” the Garda spokesman said.
