UK: Warrington launches anti-cannabis campaign

Cheshire Today

Tuesday 16 Jul 2013

Warrington Borough Council this week launches a new campaign to highlight the dangers of cannabis.

The “It’s not just a joint” campaign will run throughout July, August and September in Warrington, with adverts on buses and at bus shelters in various locations around the town, and promotion via social media.

The council’s executive member for health and wellbeing, Coun Pat Wright, said:

“Cannabis is much stronger today than it has ever been and there has been an increase in cannabis-related crime. We need to make people aware of this.”

The artwork for the campaign, designed by the council’s marketing team and Future DC, is intended “not to pull its punches” about the effects of cannabis. Coun. Wright aded:

“Our campaign sets out to illustrate the serious dangers related to the use of cannabis. The artwork depicts problems commonly caused by cannabis, including mental health issues, lung cancer, memory loss, panic attacks, paranoia, slow thinking and hallucinations. Many of these symptoms can often initially be ‘unseen’ or obscure but cannabis use is demonstrably causing significant harm to residents in Warrington.”
