UK: Cannabis farm suppliers targeted in morning raids across Merseyside
Liverpool Echo Thursday 18 Jul 2013 Homes and businesses across Merseyside were raided this morning as police launched a crackdown on cannabis farm suppliers. In co-ordinated strikes at 8am warrants were executed at eight addresses in Liverpool, Birkenhead and Kirkby, including three businesses. One man was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis after officers discovered a cannabis farm in a house on Ashburnham Way, Everton. Detective superintendent Chris Green, from the force's anti gun and gang crime unit Matrix, said the drug was often linked to more serious crime. He said: "Cannabis cultivation across our communities is linked to serious and organised crime and violent criminals who are making hundreds of thousands of pounds by cultivating, growing and supplying cannabis into our communities." All the properties raided in today's operation were linked to businesses selling hydroponic equipment. Det Supt Green said: "There are a number of businesses selling hydroponics that are operating legitimately but there are a minority who are unscrupulously involved in illegal activity. "They are providing detailed instructions on how to put a farm together." http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/merseside-cannabis-farm-suppliers-targeted-5136008
