US: Illinois Legalizes Medical Marijuana Use Jennifer Stanton Testcountry.com Blog Monday 05 Aug 2013 Photo credit: Alexrk2 via Wikimedia Commons Photo credit: Alexrk2 via Wikimedia Commons According to Star Tribune, Illinois patients will be given access to medical cannabis only if they are diagnosed with a serious medical condition included in the debilitating illnesses list. Some of the disease in the list include cancer and lupus. In addition, patients will be prescribed only up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana every two weeks. The governor declared his approval of the bill for two reasons. First, he has found remarkable results in the use of medical marijuana for patients. “It’s important we do whatever we can to help ease their pain,” Quinn said in a news report. His second reason is the strictness of the bill, and how “it is so tightly and properly drafted.” The new law takes effect on January 1, 2014. By this period, dispensaries and cultivation centers will be set up and regulated by the state. Marijuana Policy Project state policies director Karen O’Keefe said that Illinois’ medical marijuana law is indeed one of the most stringent in the US. Here are just some of the restrictions: no home-grown pot, all cultivation centers must have 24 hours camera surveillance, and many more. Last week, New Hampshire approved its own medical marijuana law, after Gov. Maggie Hassan put her signature on the dotted line. http://hometestingblog.testcountry.com/?p=25828
