UK: Man told to 'vacuum' after cannabis find

UTV

Wednesday 21 Aug 2013

A man was found with cannabis in his flat in Londonderry because he hadn't cleaned his flat since it was last searched by police, a court has heard.

Christopher Fraser, 28, from Hamilton Court, pleaded guilty to possessing a quantity of the Class B drug, which was found by police on 22 March this year.

Solicitor Derwin Harvey said almost all of the 66 grams of the herbal cannabis found in the flat were "the scattered remains of an unsuccessful attempt by the defendant to cultivate cannabis plants in his flat last year for which he has already been dealt with by the court.

"Obviously he didn't give his home a good spring cleaning and that is why he is here today."

He told the court: "As a condition of his new employment he has to undergo regular drugs tests and they, unlike his flat, have all come back clean."

Imposing a £125 fine on Fraser on Wednesday, District Judge Barney McElholm commented "maybe he should buy himself a vacuum cleaner".
