Malaysia: 12 Years Jail, Whipping For Indonesian With Cannabis
Bermana Monday 02 Sep 2013 Judge Datuk Ahmadi Asnawi ordered the accused, Muhammad Amin Johan, 36, to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on Nov 24, 2012. In his judgement, Ahmadi said the rising trend in drug cases involving foreigners in Malaysia was of grave concern. "You should have thought about it before committing this offence. I feel that you will only reform with the 22 strokes of whipping," he said. Muhammad Amin was charged with his wife Rihul Jannah Iksan, who was freed on a defence representation last year, of possessing 5.397kg of cannabis at Batu Caves, Gombak here on Nov 24, 2012. He was initially charged under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction but was later offered alternative charges under Section 6 of the same Act. Deputy public prosecutor Aidatul Azura Zainal Abidin conducted the prosecution while lawyer Choong Kak Seng represented Muhammad Amin. http://www.bernama.com.my/bernama/v7/ge/newsgeneral.php?id=974602
