UK: Woman used cannabis to 'wean' herself off alcohol, Carlisle court told

News and Star, Carlisle

Tuesday 03 Sep 2013

A woman who was found growing cannabis plants in her home has appeared at court in Carlisle.

Susan Elizabeth Hands, 45, of Tynefield Court, Bridge Lane, Penrith, admitted being concerned in the production of the controlled drug when she appeared before magistrates in the city.

The court heard that police were called to the house after an argument between Hands and her boyfriend.

Once there officers found 16 cannabis plants and special lighting equipment.

Magistrates were told that Hands had a problem with alcohol and to “wean” herself off started taking cannabis. She said the plants were for her own personal use.

She was given a community supervision order for 12-months and a six-month alcohol treatment programme.
