UK: Letter: Cannabis Has Health Benefits

Mick Hardy

Evening News, Norwich

Saturday 14 Sep 2013

Mr Elliott (EN, September 10) said: ""I'm fed up with those 'legalise cannabis' campaigners who seem to think that it's actually good for you."

Can I suggest that he checks the medical facts about the efficacy of cannabis for ailments too numerous to mention here? This is why many disabled people smoke cannabis in preference to the drugs provided by big pharmacies, many of which have horrendous side effects.

Much propaganda has been put out about the effects of cannabis on mental health. Research in Australia has shown that there could be a link between the heavy metal residues in some hydroponic growing mediums used in some propagation and their effect on developing brains. The answer to this, of course, is legalisation and control.

Why is it that we take heed of people's opinions on cannabis who have no experience of the plant whatsoever?
