UK: Letter: No Case to Allow Drugs

Richard Elliott

Evening News, Norwich

Tuesday 10 Sep 2013

Mick Harding's letter (EN September 6) implied that due to the recent violence in Prince of Wales Road area, we should adopt an Amsterdam approach to the problem by having marijuana cafes.

Having been to Amsterdam myself, I hesitate at the suggestion. It has got out of hand there.

I found it a seedy den of iniquity where the cafes operated. I would not like to see Norwich go the same way. I live in te area of Prince of Wales Road and, yes, the majority of people are out enjoying themselves. Certainly many have had too much to drink but they are still well mannered - just out for a good time.

However, there is an element of people who mix drink with drugs, certainly cocaine. These people ruin it for everyone else. The suggestion thta alcohol alone is responsible for the riot in Norwich recently is misguided. I believe chemicals are also responsible.

Marijuana and cocaine are two different things, but if people want to smoke it, then go to Amsterdam. Why push it on UK society?

I'me fed up with these "legalise cannabis" campaigners who seem to think that it is actually good for you.

That's just crazy.

My advice is, if you like taking drugs, do everyone a favour. Stay away from Norwich city centre.
