NEW ZEALAND: Dreams of 'Dunsterdam' as Dunedin cannabis museum opens
TVNZ Sunday 06 Oct 2013 Crowds of people turned up to look at the first exhibit, which chronicles the long history of cannabis activism in the city, stretching back to the 1970s. Cannabis use in New Zealand is still illegal, with the substance classed as a Class B or C drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975. But while the fight to legalise marijuana continues, the pro marijuana group says it has a greater dream to turn Dunedin into the Amsterdam of the South Pacific - "Dunsterdam" as they call it. However, the campaigners realise some museum visitors might not agree with legalising the drug. "Not all people who come here will support cannabis law reform. But they'll learn about it and maybe their mind will be opened a little bit," said Abe Gray, the museum director. The cannabis museum has already been visited by police looking for an assurance that visitors would not be supplied anything but information. http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/dreams-dunsterdam-dunedin-cannabis-museum-opens-5601058
