The United States Supreme Court has barred Californians from legally giiving
marijuana to people who are sick or in pain. The decision overturned a San
Francisco judge's decree last month that cleared the way for distributing
cannabis to those in dire medical need. Nearly four years ago, Californian
voters defied the Federal Government's zero-tolerance policy on drugs and
approved a measure that allowed seriously ill patients to get marijuana with
a doctor's recommendation. The Supreme Court is likely to formally
invalidate California's medical marijuana law and similar measures in West
Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon and Maine.
