US: Utah Cannabis Coalition forms in Utah

Examiner

Sunday 10 Nov 2013

A new coalition has been formed in Utah with the strict goal of legalizing cannabis.

According to the Utah Cannabis Coalition’s Facebook page, on November 10, 2013, they stated,

“Thank you so much for your interest and continued support of the Utah Cannabis Coalition, made up of organizations is support of legalize cannabis in all forms, through Utah.

Several groups make up the Utah Cannabis Coalition, such as Hempower Utah, SLC Hemp, Utah Moms for Marijuana, Salt Lake City Moms for Marijuana, Legalize Utah and UtahCARE - Cannabis Awareness, Respect and Education).

The mission of the Utah Cannabis Coalition is to work together, in as a cohesive team, toward the common goal of legalizing the cannabis plant in Utah, for every possible use in medicine to industrial hemp, the possibilities are endless.

We advocate for legal, uncompromised use and access (including home growing) to and of cannabis for compassionate medical use, for industrial hemp and for controlled, taxed and recreational use through a regulated system that allows licensed, medical doctors to recommend therapeutic marijuana to their patients diagnosed with specific diseases and/or medical conditions, without the threat of criminal or professional repercussions, and allows for a supply of legally available cannabis to patients without the threat of arrest, prosecution and incarceration.

Simply put, we oppose criminal penalties against those who may benefit from cannabis.

We are not currently collecting signatures in person as it is clear we have enough support for what we currently required for Utah politicians.

Our next steps will be to hold a series of events this Fall and early Winter, 2014, including meetings and a end of year celebration, details to follow. We are also closely following states wherein cannabis laws have been enacted and this writer recently published a series closely examining the status of each of such states.

The Utah Cannabis Coalition will continue with their quest in a new campaign in 2014 entitled “Educate in order to Medicate” by contacting every Utah politician with frequent, informative e-mail blasts and publishing their responses. These have been collected over the past 5 years and will continue to be published effective January 1, 2014.

The Utah Cannabis Coalition highly suggests every advocate, user or patient take a moment, determine who represents you (via this link to the Utah Legislature) and tell them why you believe it is necessary to legalize cannabis throughout Utah.

We will publish any responses and be happy to provide a vast resource of educational materials.

If any of these events interest you and you would like to volunteer or obtain more detailed information, you can reach the Coalition on Facebook at this link, send an e-mail (all information is kept confidential) to Utahcannabiscoalition@gmail.com or follow them on Twitter.

2014 looks to be an outstanding year for activism and the Utah Cannabis Coalition is happy to work with other outstanding, local and international groups such as Hempower Utah and Utah Moms for Marijuana.
