India: Inter-state drugs racket busted, 10 quintals of cannabis seized
New India Express Sunday 24 Nov 2013 The Excise Intelligence and Enforcement Bureau (EIEB) on Saturday busted an inter-state drugs racket, arresting the kingpin while seizing about 10 quintals of cannabis in transit here. Acting on intelligence inputs a special team of the Bureau apprehended a pick-up van near the Manguli toll gate and recovered the narcotics, valued at more than `5 lakh. Three persons including the dealer Naba Kishore Kedia of Kandarpur in Cuttack, Pramod Das and Bapina Das were arrested. According to EIEB IIC Amarendra Jena, the cannabis was neatly packed in around 24 bags and concealed under clusters of bananas. The narcotics was being transported all the way from Begusarai in Bihar to Puri from where it was to be supplied to dealers and peddlers not only in the pligrim town but also adjoining areas of Pipili, Delanga and even the Capital city of Bhubaneswar. “It is intriguing, how the pick up van could come on the highway crossing border checkposts without being caught. Even the driver of van Pramod did not have a driving license”, Jena said. Kedia was a known dealer with several cases pending against him. The three have been booked under the Bihar Odisha Excise Act and produced before the court. http://newindianexpress.com/states/odisha/Inter-state-drugs-racket-busted-10-quintals-of-cannabis-seized/2013/11/24/article1908238.ece
