Zambia: Two French nationals nabbed over drugs

TWO French nationals have been arrested for attempting to sneak cannabis into the country through Mwami Border in Eastern Province.

The two were traveling from Malawi on a Lusaka-bound bus when they were apprehended by alert Drug-Enforcement Commission (DEC) officers.

DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo named the two as waiters Jeremy William and Martial Frank Touston, both 28.

She said they were found with 10 grammes of cannabis concealed in a transparent plastic.

Meanwhile the Commission in Central Province has arrested nine people for trafficking in various quantities of cannabis after conducting an operation in Luano valley in Chief Mboloma’s area.

Among those arrested are Analyosi Chisenga, 38, of Mboloma area for trafficking in 36.2 kilogrammes of cannabis, Evaristo Mwamba, 45, also of the same area for trafficking in 27.4 kilogrammes of cannabis and Methias Mumba, 38, for trafficking in 18.4 kilogrammes of cannabis.

Others arrested include Patrick Cement, 37, a peasant farmer of Kampoko village in Mboloma area for trafficking in 17.6 kilogrammes of cannabis and Alex Kasonde, 29, of Mulungwe village in Mkushi for trafficking in 800 grammes of cannabis.

All suspects will appear in court soon.
