ALCP Standing in General Election

The Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party today confirmed that it will be standing in the 2014 General Election on September 20, with candidates nationwide.

The ALCP, which has been in MMP politics since 1996, has new leadership and a new direction heading into the election.

"The old stereotypes of dreadlocks and hippies have gone out the window," leader Julian Crawford said. "These days it's all about business professionals who want to take part in this booming economy."

"Colorado expects the recreational cannabis market to reach US$1 Billion next year, with a population similar to New Zealand."

The ALCP is making a serious commitment to seek parliamentary representation and enact similar legislation here, which would benefit all New Zealanders.

Mr Crawford said his party's policy would bring in much needed revenue to boost public services.

"While other political parties reduce money for one government department to fund another, the ALCP will increase funding across the board by adding GST to cannabis sales," he said.

"Not only will this undermine the financing of organised crime, it will provide adults a safer alternative to alcohol, tobacco and synthetic highs."

"New Zealand cannot afford another three years of chemical Russian roulette."

ALCP are seeking 5% of the Party Vote and are ready to negotiate a coalition deal with either side of the political spectrum.
