POLICE and Crime Commissioner Matthew Grove says campaigners calling for the legalisation of cannabis are living in “cloud cuckoo land”.

Mr Grove has ruled out a “softly softly” approach to drugs and rejected claims that police resources are being wasted targeting cannabis growers and dealers.

“To pretend that criminality will disappear because cannabis is legalised, whoever is suggesting that is living on cloud cuckoo land,” Mr Grove told a TV channel.

He added that there would be no let-up on the fight against drugs “on his watch”, adding that cannabis was the source of widespread misery in many parts of his force area.
