Mum Elisabeth Rose, 31, said she would not be taking her son Robin, who is five months old, to Platt Fields park because of the 'health implications'

With up to a thousand marijuana enthusiasts expected to descend on Platt Fields on Sunday for a cannabis festival, we spoke to people enjoying the Good Friday sun in the park.

Mum Elisabeth Rose, 31, said she would not be taking her son Robin, who is five months old, to the park because of the 'health implications'.

Elisabeth, who is from Rusholme and is on on maternity leave from her job as a computer programmer, said: “I won’t be bringing Robin down to the park.“I’m not wholly against it, I’m not for it either, but just because of the health implications for him.”

Retired grandfather Martin Anstee, who was birdwatching with his mother Joyce, said he understood why families were “upset”.

“If people want to do that then it won’t stop me coming down to the park, especially while it’s so sunny.

“But I completely get why families might be upset. It’s not really fair on them is it?”

Mark and Mary-Jane Capodici, from Victoria Park, who were on their way for a drink in the sun with their son Alex, 4, said they would be staying away from the park.

Mary-Jane, a 34-year-old biomedical scientist, said: “It puts me off going with the kids definitely. I suppose it’s a public space so there’s not much anyone can do.

Mark, 35, who works for a bank, said: “I wouldn’t be taking my son down there, that’s for sure.”

A man working in an ice cream van, going only by the name of Mr Softee, said he would remain open despite it being against his religious beliefs.

“I’m a Muslim and I believe weed is against the teachings of Allah.

“We’ll still be open for everyone.”

Widower Georgina Best, 73, whose husband was a namesake of the late Manchester United striker, George, said it would not stop her from enjoying her favourite bench by the lake.

“I don’t want anyone doing drugs,” she said.

“As long as they keep themselves to themselves then I see no problem and it should be fine.

“I come here nearly every day. It certainly won’t be keeping me from my bench.”
