US: Group Calls for Pardon for Man Serving Life on Marijuana Charges

Life without parole—that’s the sentence a Sedalia, Mo. man received on a 1991 marijuana conviction.

Now 60 years old, Jeff Mizanskey’s freedom depends on Gov. Jay Nixon granting him clemency.

Show Me Cannabis’ John Payne says the governor has been silent, but the pro-marijuana group has been collecting online signatures to present to Nixon next Monday.

“There’s no magical number that will get him out of prison, but if we show enough public support for it, I believe that it will get the governor’s attention to show that this is a case, across the political spectrum, people are agreeing that this guy should not be serving life for cannabis,” Payne says.

The petition has nearly 367,000 signatures.
