Straw: I would have
The Mirror.
Wednesday 11 Oct 2000 Subject: Straw: I would have Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2000 Source: The Mirror. STRAW: I WOULD HAVE HOME Secretary Jack Straw has again denied he ever smoked dope but added: "Had it been around, I probably would have tried it." He told his local newspaper in Blackburn this week: "I've never taken cannabis." I don't say that as a superior thing, but it wasn't around in the sort of serious lefty circles that I moved in when I was at Leeds University from 1964 to 1968." But Clarissa Dixon-Wright, star of Two Fat Ladies, who studied law with him at Gray Inn's in London, said: "I'm rather mystified by these allegations about never having touched wacky baccy and things like that." Reformed alcoholic Clarrissa added: "Obviously my memory has been damaged by all the alcohol I drank." Here's the extract from HIGNFY: Deayton: Don't you know Jack Straw, as well? Clarissa: Yeah, I was at Gray's Inn with him when I was a Law student. He's a poacher turned gamekeeper really. Deayton: In what way? Clarissa: Well you know I'm rather mystified by all these allegations about never having touched wacky baccy and things like that. - Clarissa Dickson Wright on Have I Got News for You.
