Yesterday the governor of Florida, Rick Scott, signed a law allowing for the limited use of the "Charlotte's Web" cannabis strain known for its high-CBD content and its efficacy in treating epilepsy and seizures. The bill also allots $1 million to go towards medical cannabis research.

Doctors can start prescribing medical cannabis as a treatment option for eligible patients after January 1, 2015. The current list of approved medical conditions eligible for medical cannabis treatment include epilepsy, cancer, and ALS. On the production side, only growers working for nurseries that have been in business for at least 30 years will be allowed to produce medical cannabis.

It's a limited law for sure, but at least Florida is taking steps in the right direction. Congratulations, Sunshine State! You've made valuable progress in the ever-growing cannabis movement.
