UK: Cannabis plants grow in central London Anthony Pearce BT News Wednesday 18 Jun 2014 London has long been known as the Big Smoke because of its polluted streets, but in this greener, cleaner age, it could keep the name for a very different reason. Campaigners claim they have been growing cannabis plants along the Thames River, from the Shard to the Houses of Parliament. One of the plants, grown from seed near the capital’s historic Tower Bridge, is said to have been three-foot-tall when it was finally detected and removed. The Feed the Birds Campaign said the seeds were planted alongside the river, including at the South Bank Centre art complex, in a bid to “create a conversation” about the drug’s use in Britain. The campaign’s Finn Hemingway said the group wanted to “raise awareness for medicinal users who need cannabis to improve their quality of life” and to “supply medicinal and recreational users with seeds”. The group alleges that the plants have been growing for two to three months, with thousands of commuters and tourists passing them every day without noticing. https://home.bt.com/news/uknews/cannabis-plants-grow-in-central-london-11363912422048
