US: Iowa governor condemns recreational marijuana use Andy Devine wgem.com Tuesday 19 Aug 2014 Governor Terry Branstad says he thinks legalizing marijuana for recreational use would cause more problems than good and that's why he opposes any legislation in the state. Branstad did sign state legislation this year allowing the parents of children with severe epilepsy to purchase and possess an oil derived from marijuana. Lee County Narcotics Task Force Commander Stacy Weber says his agency spends countless hours fighting the drug problem locally, and he thinks legalizing marijuana for recreational use would be a slippery slope. "We see a lot of people who deal drugs and when they are not making enough money dealing drugs they take in stolen property and that just perpetuates the cycle," Weber said. "A burglar wouldn't go commit burglaries if he didn't have a place to go and sell things a purpose or a need for that thing." Democratic Senator Jack Hatch who is challenging Branstad in the governor's race supports extending the use of cannabis oil for other conditions, but is not advocating for recreational use. http://www.wgem.com/story/26320311/2014/08/19/iowa-governor-condemns-recreational-marijuana-use
