UK Scotland: Cannabis smoker vows he won’t stop despite court

A DOPE user who narrowly escaped jail for growing cannabis left court and insisted he would keep smoking the drug.

William Hailes, 50, was snared after social workers tipped off police that he was growing cannabis in his home in Dawson Avenue, Livingston.

Fiscal depute Catherine Knowles said officers found £250 of the class B drug and lights, a fan and a vent.

Stuart Peebles, defending, told Livingston Sheriff Court his client used it for a sore back after a car crash.

He said: “Very candidly, he accepts that he’d have been better off buying the cannabis rather than cultivating it.”

Hailes was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
