Australia: POLICE converge on Nimbin in major drug raid Hamish Broome Northern Star Thursday 11 Sep 2014 Simultaneously police executed a search warrant on a rural Jiggi property which police believe contains a "large" mature cannabis plantation. Half a kilogram of cannabis was seized in Nimbin, with seven arrests as of 2pm. A witness who didn't wish to be named described the scene in Nimbin. He said police with sniffer dogs were going in and out of businesses and apprehending people that were suspected of being in possession, including some people who were working in the shops. He said the police van was being used as a "preliminary charging station" and some people were then taken down to the police station further down Cullen Street. "It's quite an operation. I suppose at regular intervals they need to look tough; like they're doing something about it," he said. Richmond Local Area Command superintendant Greg Martin said police were looking to arrest a further 12 people in the operation. http://www.northernstar.com.au/news/police-converge-nimbin-major-drug-raid/2383739/
