Global Post

Thursday 09 Oct 2014

Portugal has approved a type of cannabis to be planted and sent to Britain for the production of medicinal products, according to local media reports.

The plantation will be the first of its kind in Portugal and the variety of cannabis grown -- cannabis sativa -- has a low level of the main psychotropic substance.

According to local reports, the plantation was authorized by the Portuguese pharmaceutical regulator, Infarmed, in September and the license was granted to local company Terra Verde for a renewable one-year period.
