"From now on we expect to pick up cannabis plants on a regular basis, on a weekly basis at least," Webster said. Police searched isolated areas and relied on people to provide information about potential cannabis plants, he said. "There won't be very big plants out in the wild yet but we have found a number of little plants," he said. "Normally from November, at the end of the frost season, they shouldn't have much problem growing." The biggest find this season had been more than 200 cannabis plants at a Blenheim property. A 19-year-old Marlborough man appeared in the Blenheim District Court last week and admitted cultivating $64,000 worth of cannabis at a Blenheim house. Police found more than 200 cannabis plants on the property, some of which were up to 500 centimetres tall, Webster said. Seventy-six cannabis plants were found in hydroponic grow pottles outside the sleepout, along with 54 seedlings on its porch, and nine plants in the garden. Police relied heavily on information about plants from people in the community. People going into the bush with gardening tools and water bottles was a bit of a giveaway, he said.
