Vancouver police released a statement saying the man was overtly selling marijuana to young people and that he failed to stop after repeated warnings. The organizer of an annual marijuana protest in downtown Vancouver is blaming the city for an outbreak of violence that led to several protesters being arrested on Canada Day. Pot-related arrests have become nearly non-existent in Vancouver in recent years, with Vancouver Police repeatedly stating that they will not take action unless the offender is making a scene. Police were in attendance at Cannabis Day in downtown Vancouver. “The city has been so tolerant before”, she said, speaking outside the Vancouver Art Gallery where the protest was being held. Neil Magnuson identified himself as the man charged with trafficking. The activists locked arms with each other – what we call “Hug Power” – another non-violent technique used to exercise civil disobedience in opposing what we believe are unjust laws. “Police reported he was arrested for selling marijuana to youth, though selling to youth was not mentioned before or during the arrest”. Event organizers have vowed the annual event will go ahead in 2016. The venue was the Cannabis Day protest, a July 1 gathering on the lawns of the Vancouver Art Gallery that usually features pot vendors and hand-outs of free cannabis. “Whether officially-sanctioned or not, the Cannabis Day and 4/20 Vancouver protests will go on, and we will continue our quest for the rights and freedoms of cannabis consumers and all Canadian citizens”. Bert Easterbrook was given a certificate of merit in 2013 for stopping rioters from flipping over a truck two years earlier. In 2013, Easterbrook was also charged with not filling out the 2011 census. “He was swarmed by the mob”.
