UK: Benefits: 37 Years on the Dole sees drug user Michelle X proudly show off her cannabis farm Carl Greenwood Mirror Wednesday 01 Jul 2015 t's no secret that some people struggle to exist on benefits and Michelle X says she's no different. The 48-year-old - who appeared on Channel 5's Benefits: 37 Years on the Dole - insists that she would be willing to work, as soon as the Government legalise cannabis which she says helps her cope with her multiple sclerosis. "I have no choice but to grow my own medicine, because then I know what I'm being given and what I'm taking for my condition," Michelle told the show as she showed cameras around her cannabis farm. The keen motorcylclist - who claims £20,000 per year in benefits - added: "All my money that is spare goes into cannabis but to be fair it doesn't take much to grow this." "I had a different outlook when I was working - it inspires you to do more. A lot of people don't realise how lonely it can be without [a job]." Despite the fact Michelle had her flat raided by the police, leaving her locked up for the night, Michelle continues to grow the drug because she believes it should be legal. Unemployed Michelle also blames her lack of work on the fact she smokes drugs, but has no problem in showing her 'stash' and equipment off to Channel 5's cameras and risking more police action. She admitted: "I don't remember the last time I applied for a job. All they've got to do is find a doctor to say I can work on cannabis. "Of course it would be hard to come off the benefits - I've been cushioned by them for so long. I have a very nice lifestyle - I don't deny that at all." 37 Years on the Dole: Meet the man who has had a record 2,000 job applications without success Michelle later revealed how she hopes to eventually come off benefits - but only when the Government legalises cannabis so she can use without fear of being sacked for her drug use. It's not just Michelle featuring on the show, it also looked at Stephen Garwood and Keith Price, and between the three of them, they've been unemployed for a total of 37 years. http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/benefits-37-years-dole-sees-5991474
