UK: Cannabis plants start popping up in town centre flowerbeds as part of campaign to legalise drug Anna Dubuis The Mirror Monday 20 Jul 2015 Residents in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire were startled when cannabis plants started popping up in the town's flowerbeds. But a group of guerilla gardeners, which calls itself the Welwyn Garden City Cannabis Club, has come forward to take responsibility for the plants Speaking to the Welwyn Hatfield Times, the group said it was a stunt to highlight the benefits of cannabis. A statement read: "These plants are the work of local activists as part of a movement which believes cannabis should be available for medical and recreational use, that we utilise and legalise hemp and replace our polyplastics industry and fossil fuel dependency." The group's spokesperson, who goes by the name Luna Tokes said: "We are here to raise awareness of the medical benefits of cannabis and the dangers of legal and pharmaceutical drugs." Alas the plants were not around for long as the local council said it had dug up and removed them "to prevent any further confusion". http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/pictured-cannabis-plants-start-popping-6105679
