In less than a week, a petition for the total legalisation of cannabis in the UK has been signed by more than 160,000 people. The appeal, published last Tuesday on the government’s official website for petitions, specifically asks parliament “to make the production, sale and use of cannabis legal”. According to British law, all petitions that reach 100,000 signatures must be debated by MPs in the House of Commons. This success for the campaigners is also the result of a persistent social media campaign, with activists from around the world calling on British consumers of marijuana to sign en masse.
