US: Modern Cannabis dispensary to open in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood

The owners of Modern Cannabis are no strangers to the Logan Square neighborhood. Two of them own the popular Emporium barcade on Milwaukee Ave., which sits conveniently next door to their new dispensary located at 2369 N. Milwaukee Ave.

The owners are also no strangers to operating tightly-regulated businesses.

“Our principals are successfully and responsibly operating pharmacies and taverns, two highly regulated types of businesses with many parallels to medical cannabis dispensing,” according to the company’s about page.

Former law enforcement officials will oversee the dispensary’s security operations with support from the facility’s high-tech security technology and “intelligent operational flows.”

Co-owner Danny Marks told DNAinfo Chicago the owners hope to pass the last inspection early next week and open as early as Feb. 5. The process has taken somewhat longer than expected, he said.

The only other dispensary currently operating in Chicago is Dispensary 33, which opened Nov. 16, 2015 at the corner of Clark and Argyle in the Andersonville neighborhood.

Illinois’ medical cannabis program kicked off Nov. 9, 2015 and 25 dispensaries are currently licensed to sell medical marijuana to qualifying patients.
