US: City council votes to ban cannabis clubs

City council voted 6-3 to ban all new cannabis clubs in the city.

The vote also requires current clubs to close down within 8 years.

Sale of recreational marijuana is illegal in the city, but the council said the clubs aren’t following that restriction.

“The club A-64 model that we approved in April of 2014 where they had told us there would be no sales at all. That it was a bring your own model was no longer economically valid and to exist they all had to sell marijuana,” said City Council member Don Knight.

Some people in support of the clubs said the council didn’t listen to them.

“I think it showed a complete lack of consideration that came out. What they were able to demonstrate from the supposed constituents that wanted this banned was minimal. I find it interesting that the council members actually knew most of them by first name.”
