UK: Lib Dems vote to legalise cannabis

Lib Dems today overwhelmingly backed legalising cannabis .

The party agreed to make decriminalisation official policy after a vote at its spring conference in York.

Urging grassroots activists the support the move, health spokesman Norman Lamb said: "It's long overdue that we call time on the most discredited, most stupid, most dangerous, so-called 'war on drugs'.

"I want this party to lead the way to a new approach, based on evidence, which is liberal, and which protects public health."
