UK: Ex-MP joins drug debate on decriminalisation of cannabis Joel Adams, The Argus Thursday 07 Apr 2016 A FORMER MP will argue for the decriminalisation of cannabis in a university debate this evening. Norman Baker, the former drugs minister who represented Lewes from 1997 until his defeat in last May's election, will face off against columnist Peter Hitchens at the University of Sussex, on the motion: "This House Would Legalise Cannabis". Mr Baker notably resigned from his ministerial post before the last election following the publication of a study within the Home Office which concluded there was "no obvious" link between tougher sanctions and levels of drug use, which put him at odds with Home Secretary Theresa May. The pair will be joined by University of Sussex undergraduates in a debate hosted by the Sussex Debating Society and student newspaper The Badger. It will be held in the Fulton A Lecture Theatre at the Falmer campus starting at 6pm. http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/14410281.Ex_MP_joins_drug_debate_on_decriminalisation_of_cannabis/
