Alaska irons out rules for cannabis consumption at pot shops.

Alaska regulators are set to consider three sets of pot consumption rules on Wednesday, April 27, in Anchorage, according to the Associated Press.

After following Colorado’s lead and officially legalizing recreational cannabis use, Alaska’s Marijuana Control Board voted last year to allow cannabis consumption in retail shops. It’s the first state to do so.

Alaska has not issued any pot shop business licenses yet, but the board appears to be lining all their ducks in a row before May 24, the date by which it must start the licensing approval process.

The new regulations to be discussed Wednesday will govern how customers will be permitted to smoke marijuana and consume edibles at authorized retail locations.

The board is considering three sets of regulations, all of which would establish separate consumption and nonconsumption areas inside authorized cannabis retail locations.

The biggest differences between the different proposed rules deal with cannabis quantities and questions like whether or not customers should be allowed to leave retailers with unfinished cannabis products they purchased for in-store consumption, as reported by The Washington Times.

The board must pull together a final set of regulations from the three proposals, which will then be likely put out for public comment.
