Hawai'i: Woody Harrelson denied medical marijuana license

Toronto Sun

Saturday 30 Apr 2016

Woody Harrelson has been reportedly denied a medical-marijuana dispensary license.

The Hunger Games actor applied for the license back in February in Honolulu County on behalf of his company, Simply Organic Living, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Harrelson was among 66 Hawaii residents who applied to open the state's first medical-marijuana dispensaries. Applicants were required to have $1 million cash, plus $100,000 (£62,500) for each of their planned dispensary locations. They also must have been residents of Hawaii for more than five years.

The eight successful licensees were announced on Friday by the Hawaii Department of Health.

The law allows medical-marijuana businesses to have two production centers and two retail dispensaries, for a total of 16 dispensaries statewide. And, the facilities can be open for business as early as 15 July.

Six are allowed on Oahu, four on the island of Hawaii, four on Maui and two on Kauai, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hawaii became the first U.S. state to legalize medical marijuana 16 years ago.
