Australia: Girl, 3, who was given cannabis oil by her father, loses cancer battle

A LITTLE girl whose father was fined for giving her cannabis oil to ease her cancer pain has died.

Three-year-old Rumer Rose Maujean’s dad, Adam Koessler, was given a two-year good behaviour bond and a $500 fine earlier this year after admitting he spiked his daughter’s food with the oil in late 2014. A conviction was not recorded.

Rumer died “peacefully” in the early hours of this morning, her dad’s Facebook page said.

“Now the time has come for this little warrior princess and her beautiful smile to shine down on us from the stars above,” the Facebook post said.

“The love this little girl has generated around the world has been a phenomenal force, and we would like to thank you all for the endless love, support and prayers.

“We truly believe that she felt that love and it gave her strength as she fought each new battle.”

Rumer, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2014, received chemotherapy, surgery, a bone-marrow transplant and radiation at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane but recently returned home to Cairns.

Her parents, Sacha Maujean and Adam, were searching for overseas treatment options before she died.

Her father’s Facebook page, Fearless Father, is followed by more than 75,000 people.

Police were told Mr Koessler ordered cannabis oil from NSW and California and cooked his daughter’s food with it, before his ex-wife noticed a strange smell in the child’s meal the day before she was due to start chemotherapy in December, 2014.

He pleaded guilty in the Brisbane Supreme Court in March to supplying and possessing drugs.

There is no suggestion the father harmed the girl or contributed to her death.
