US: Lance Gloor gets 10 year federal prison sentence for growing legal medical marijuana Leslie Kahn Chicago Now Monday 06 Jun 2016 I have been trying to process my feelings for several days about the unfair punishment of Lance Gloor. I now consider him to be my friend, as well as his mother, Tracie Gloor. I reached out to Tracie to write a post right before Lance's sentencing in hopes of changing the mind of the sentencing judge. Here is the link to the post I wrote. Lance Gloor is innocent of breaking Washington state medical marijuana laws Along with all of the Gloors' family, friends and supporters, I hoped that Lance would be freed upon appeal. When I read the sentence; 120 months in federal prison and 5 years of probation, my heart sank. I didn't know whether or not to reach out to Tracie, but she reached out to me and sent me a 2 word message on Facebook messenger. 10 years. Tracie and I chatted recently via FB messenger and she told me how Lance's sentence has affected the entire family. It was absolutely heart breaking. Lance is caretaker of his aged grandparents who can't understand why their beloved grandson was taken away from them. Lance's daughter is graduating from High School very soon and her dad will not be there to celebrate her accomplishment. She must clearly be devastated. Of course, Tracie, Lance's biggest supporter, has "lost" her son, a man who has done nothing but good works and has been vilified by the media for his troubles. Even the sentencing judge called Lance a "flim flam man!" WTH? Who even uses that term? There was no flimflamming involved. The more I thought about Lance sitting in federal prison, the more I got angry about people who received much, much lighter sentences for actual crimes, like serious crimes of rape. So let's see what we got going on at the moment... Brock Turner, the 20 year old Stanford swimmer, was discovered raping an unconscious woman on the Stanford University campus behind a dumpster, in January 2015. He left her there, half naked and brutalized. He got sentenced to six months in jail because a longer sentence would have had a "severe impact on him", according to the judge. He'll probably only serve 3 months. His victim will never, ever be the same, again. And if that weren't bad enough, his moron of a father says his son shouldn't suffer for "20 minutes of action." There's a family of moral giants. Yet, Lance Gloor received a prison sentence of 10 years for growing often life-saving medicine for his fellow citizens of Washington. Then, we have the case of Prince Rogers Nelson who died of a fentanyl overdose. This, in itself, is such a tragedy since he might still be sharing his musical genius with us if he had been given medical cannabis for his pain. Why fentanyl, a drug that is 40-50 times stronger than heroin, is even allowed to be prescribed to people not monitored in hospitals, is so completely insane since thousands of people have died from its use. Originally, it was only used for cancer pain, but there wasn't a big enough market, so the makers of the drug managed to convince the FDA to allow its use for general chronic pain relief. Will the person who supplied Prince with fentanyl be given a prison sentence for his death? What about the CEOs of all the companies that now manufacture it...Janssen, Johnson & Johnson, Actavis, Watson, and Sandoz? Probably not. Yet, Lance Gloor received a prison sentence of 10 years for safely relieving the pain and symptoms of his patients' illnesses. Yeah, and how about ex-President George W. Bush, who lied to the American people and made up a story about Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) in Iraq so he could start a war there over oil? How many millions have died as a result of that crime? Anybody talking about putting him away or Dick Cheney? Nope. Or the subprime mortgage fiasco that nearly brought the worlds' economies to its knees and caused 8 million Americans to lose their jobs and homes. Anybody going to prison for that one? Yet, Lance Gloor received a prison sentence of 10 years for giving away, in many cases, medical cannabis plants to those who couldn't afford them. Does this sound like a flim flam man to you? Even if you don't use medical cannabis, yourself, but you think everyone who wants to use it should have the right, please contact your legislators and tell them to legalize cannabis on a federal level. Also, tell them to release all the federal prisoners who have been illegally incarcerated. As always, I love to hear your thoughts and comments. I hope this post inspires action on your part!
