Canada: Vancouver increases number of allowed pot shops

Toronto Metro

Thursday 30 Jun 2016

Vancouver officials have voted to expand the number of marijuana shops allowed in the city.

The Columbian reports (http://bit.ly/296jm1h ) the City Council's vote earlier this week increases the number of pot businesses permitted in Vancouver from nine to 12.

The decision comes after the state Liquor and Cannabis Board raised the number of marijuana stores each jurisdiction is allowed in order to meet demand.

A consultant had found that the number of stores across Washington state needed to be raised from 334 to 556.

The move is part of the state's efforts to ensure those who use marijuana for medical reasons have access to the products they need.
