New Zealand: Pro-cannabis protest peaceful

Tracey Roxburgh

Otago Daily Times

Saturday 17 Sep 2016

A peaceful protest in Queenstown urging for the legalisation of medical cannabis has ended without any arrests.

The protest was part of national action planned by people wanting an end to criminal penalties for cannabis possession.

Sixteen people attended the protest outside Queenstown Police Station, and just before the group was to "spark up", at 4.20pm, Inspector Olaf Jensen and two other police officers warned them about blocking the footpath.

After briefly speaking with some members of the group, the officers returned to the station.
