US: Cannabis clubs battle city of Colorado Springs to stay open Alyssa Chin KKTV Monday 19 Sep 2016 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) At least one cannabis club is appealing a cease and desist letter Monday by the city of Colorado Springs. Theoretically, police could shut them down at any moment, although unlikely. In all, nine letters were sent. Jason Warf is the Executive Director for the Southern Colorado Cannabis Council. He spoke to 11 News on behalf of Studio 64, a cannabis club downtown. The club opened its doors three years ago, shortly after Amendment 64 was passed. Studio 64 was one of five clubs that applied for an operating license. The city says they, and one other club, were denied because "they were not operating in compliance with city ordinances." "Essentially, in a nutshell, not be able to be a consumption club. The way the ordinance is written, in the opinion of our attorney, you couldn't even have cannabis to consume on site," Warf told 11 News' Alyssa Chin. Studio 64 had 10 days to appeal being denied a license, which they say they've already filed. Now, they and all the other unlicensed clubs are waiting to see what happens. "We support licensing. We do not support the current wording that in the city's license because it literally would not allow us to operate." 11 News also talked to the owner of the only cannabis club that was approved for their license, Speakeasy Vape Lounge and Cannabis Club. They said they too want to see changes, adding the licenses and rules are too restrictive. City council decided earlier this year that no new cannabis clubs would be allowed in Colorado Springs. Those that are currently operating, with a license, would eventually have to close down in eight years. http://www.kktv.com/content/news/Cannabis-clubs-battle-city-of-Colorado-Springs-to-stay-open-394062781.html
