Dubai: Housewife 'caught with hashish and tramadol' at Dubai airport

DUBAI // An Egyptian housewife has been arrested at Dubai International Airport after Customs staff found a block of hashish and tramadol tablets in her luggage.

The woman, 47, was returning from a holiday when she was stopped for a routine check on August 21 this year.

"I checked her passport and ID, then when I searched her bags the hash was wrapped in silver foil with a golden top layer like chocolate bars, and the tramadol was inside a Panadol box," said a custom inspector.

The woman denied knowing anything about the drugs but later said they were for her own use.

At Dubai Criminal Court she confessed to possessing 38 tramadol tablets and 187 grams of hashish.

The next hearing is scheduled for October 24.
