ANCHORAGE, Alaska - While other cities across the state have up and running cannabis shops, the city of Anchorage is still struggling to get more than a dozen up and running.

Marijuana stores shops have started to open up for business in Fairbanks, Juneau, Valdez and other cities, Anchorage is still weeks away from having it’s first retailer despite the push.

Cannabis shops in Anchorage have had quite a few set backs, but now the wheels are starting to turn after last night anchorage assembly meeting where a handful got licensed.

We went down to a cannabis club on 3rd Street called the Pot Luck Events to learn more about the struggles the industry is having.

Currently there is a 5 % tax on marijuana and the state is looking to put a 4% sales tax on the plant. We talked to an investor of the Pot Luck who says that can hurt many growers.

Despite the set back Dankorage and Alaska Fireweed are expected to open for customers later this month.
