UK: Hiding in plain sight: Police find cannabis plant in Cheltenham home disguised as Christmas Tree covered in tinsel and baubles

The Telegraph

Saturday 24 Dec 2016

When police swooped on a house in Cheltenham, they discovered what appeared to be a festively decorated Christmas tree, complete with tinsel, baubles and a golden angel on top.

However, on closer inspection, the officers from Gloucestershire Constabulary realised it was in fact heavily disguised cannabis plant.

The raid led to police seizing a small cannabis farm complete with equipment.

Gloucestershire police posted a photograph of the plant on their Twitter account : "Not your traditional Xmas Tree! Two arrested in Cheltenham on suspicion of cannabis cultivation."

The house in Gloucester Street, Cheltenham was searched on Wednesday and a man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

Both have been bailed until February 8, 2017 pending further enquiries.

Last year, a crop of cannabis plants was found growing in flower pots put out by a council in Newport, south Wales to brighten up a city centre.
