New petition calls for cannabis legalisation in Luxembourg

Luxemberger Wort

Tuesday 07 Feb 2017

A petition on Luxembourg’s parliament website has been launched calling legislative reform for the legalisation of medical cannabis for critically ill patients with no alternative therapy.

This was just one of seven new petitions that became open to public vote on Monday.

The cannabis public petition, assigned number 768, goes on to say that, “chronic diseases are long-term ailments which, as a rule, evolve slowly. Responsible for 63% of deaths, chronic diseases (heart disease, stroke, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes ...) are the leading cause of mortality in the world.”

The author of the petition, Kevin Raach giving the reason for his petition states, “I am in favour of the legalisation of cannabis, on medical prescription, for people who have a chronic illness. This would relieve the suffering of the sick.”

If petition 768 reaches 4,400 signatures, a public debate in parliament will be organised in the presence of the Minister of Health.
