US: Local cannabis dispensaries react to Sessions' announcement

The Daily News

Thursday 04 Jan 2018

Local cannabis dispensaries react to Attorney General Jeff Sessions' announcement.

Todd Bratton, part owner of Longview Freedom Market

• "I’m confident that our state is going to step up and protect us, so we aren’t in any immediate danger (of a federal crackdown), but it is concerning."

• "I’m going to be cautious about it but it's going to be business as usual. We have to operate as usual."

• "This is pretty politically ignorant in my opinion. It doesn’t make sense to pick this fight with the states when there is overwhelming support for cannabis legalization across the country."

Katie Bohannon, part owner of Honu Inc. in Longview

• "We don’t know what’s going to happen, but we’re going to keep plugging forward like normal."

• "If they wanted to, (the federal government) could close all of the companies. They could completely shut it down because it’s not federally legal."

• "It’s a day-by-day thing. We’ll have to see what happens. We put our whole life savings into (this business), so we’ll have to see what happens."

Marijuana sales in Cowlitz County totaled $36 million between July 2016 and June 2017. The sales generated $5.5 million in tax revenue during that time, according to the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board.
