UK: Celebrity tributes to Alfie Evans led by Tony Bellew and Piers Morgan

The 23-month-old passed away during the early hours of this morning

Celebrities including Tony Bellew and Piers Morgan paid tribute to "brave little soldier" Alfie Evans this morning.

Parents Tom Evans, 21, and Kate James, 20, shared the news their supporters had been dreading this morning.

A devastated Kate announced Alfie's death this morning on Facebook.

She said: "Our baby boy grew his wings tonight at 2:30am. We are heartbroken. Thankyou everyone for all your support."

Tom also posted: "My gladiator lay down his shield and gained his wings... absolutely heartbroken."

Celebrities were quick to leave their tributes on social media.

On Twitter, Liverpool boxer and fellow Everton supporter Tony Bellew said: "RIP Alfie Evans... A brave little solider all the way to the end...Thoughts are with his mother & father today.

Former Miss Liverpool, Danielle Lloyd shared a lengthy post on her Instagram feed, which said: "Heartbroken this morning to wake up to the news @alfiesarmy has past away what a strong little boy he was now he will be watching over all that helped him.

"Having children myself I can't imagine just how the past months, years have been for his family Rest in peace angel."

Good morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan, described Alfie as a "brave little boy".

In his tweet, shared with his 6.51m followers he said: "RIP Alfie Evans. My deepest condolences to his parents, who fought so hard for their brave little boy."

Commenting underneath a post Alfie's Army posted on Instagram, celebs including Liverpool boxer Rocky Fielding wrote: "Sleep tight Alfie. You fought right till the end, you're a real fighter il cherish the little time I spent with you. Condolences to Tom and Kate use did him proud X #AlfieEvans."

EastEnders actress, Jacqueline Osbourne said: "Heaven has gained an angel, sleep tight Alfie! I'm thinking of the whole family."

Everton FC's Jose Baxter said: "You fought to the end little man. True fighter. Godbless Alfie. Tom & Kate use done your son so proud."

Former I'm a Celeb contestant Rebekah Vardy said: "Heartbroken. This morning heaven gained an (angel emoji) Alfie Evans you stole my heart and the hearts of so many."

Real Housewives of Cheshire star, Tanya Bardsley said: "RIP beautiful angel @alfiearmy thinking of you and your amazing mummy and daddy. We are sending you love and strength."

Love Island star Amber Davies said: "Heavens gained a beautiful angel. RIP little one."
