While no European countries have legalized recreational cannabis this year, a number of them have reformed their marijuana laws by allowing medicinal use. Here are the EU countries that legalized medical marijuana so far in 2018.

Malta

Originally brought forth by the Maltese Health Minister Chris Fearne in 2017, medical marijuana officially came to the Mediterranean Island nation of Malta on March 26, 2018.

Greece

Medical marijuana was legalized in 2017 by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, and in March of this year his government allowed the cultivation and processing of cannabis on Greek soil.

Luxembourg

A bill legalizing medical marijuana was unanimously passed by the government of Luxembourg—presented by the Luxembourg's Health Ministry—last week. This made them the 8th EU member to allow patients to access cannabis.

Denmark

In December of 2017 the Danish parliament voted to bring a four-year trial for medical marijuana to Denmark. In January 2018 medical marijuana became available to some Danish patients, and in March the government began subsidizing the cost of prescriptions.
