India: Delhi is the world's third largest cannabis consumer, says study. Here is the list of 10 highest cannabis consuming cities
The Week Wednesday 11 Sep 2019 With an average price of $4.38 per gram, the capital of India is one of the cheapest places in the world to buy marijuana. According to the latest data released by the Berlin-based data firm ABCD, New York tops the list with a consumption of 77,440 kg. Karachi (Pakistan) comes second with a consumption of 41,950 kg. The study also reveals the number of marijuana head and growshops in 120 cities around the world. Though cannabis is not legal in India, Delhi and Mumbai figure among the highest 10 cities in the world. While Delhi consumed 38,260 kg of weed, the commercial capital Mumbai consumed, 32380 kg. Cannabis is a psychoactive drug from the cannabis plant that can be used for medical or recreational purposes. Also known as marijuana or charas, available in crude or purified, it has mental and physical effects, such as creating a "high" or "stoned" feeling, a general change in perception, heightened mood, and an increase in appetite. Studies have found a strong correlation between cannabis use and the risk of psychosis. Though use, and cultivation of cannabis is illegal in many parts of the world, it is being used for spiritual purposesas well. The use of cannabis is regulated in India, under the Narcotic Drugs and Pyschotropic Substances Act, 1985.
