US: Amid stay-at-home orders, cannabis enthusiasts find ways to celebrate 4/20

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- April 20th since Colorado first legalized recreational marijuana has usually featured parties and big concerts in downtown Denver, but this year, cannabis consumers had to find more solitary ways of celebrating the annual "weed holiday."

In Manitou Springs and Pueblo, dispensaries saw lines of customers -- spaced apart and waiting outside -- along with a steady supply of business. Though, one dispensary worker in Pueblo said he had seen other customers in recent days who said they were stocking up for a few weeks.

But while it's obvious that big events like Denver's annual celebrations in Civic Center Park aren't going to be happening, some customers told us that they were even questioning the traditional smoke sesh with friends.

"Social distancing makes it hard, cause you want to have people come and smoke with everyone, but I don't know, today's going to be interesting," one person told us outside of Maggie's Farm in Manitou Springs.

"You probably shouldn't be sharing your joints and stuff, but I feel like everyone's pretty much aware of that," said another customer at Maggie's Farm. Both of them, along with the majority of customers in line, were wearing masks while waiting.

But even if you're not passing the pot 'pon the left-hand side, there's still the risk of someone who doesn't know they have coronavirus coughing in your direction after a gnarly rip from a bong.

It's likely there's going to be a lot of hazy Zoom meetings, and if you're looking for some background entertainment: Willie Nelson is hosting an online concert featuring a plethora of guests.
